Rubi is a currently airing television series remake ofTelevisa’s Rubí and produced by ABS-CBN which premiered February 15, 2010
Casting
Kristine Hermosa andAngelika dela Cruz were rumoured to be cast as Rubí, but the role eventually went to Angelica Panganiban, who has proven her versatility as an actress when she played the socialite villain Scarlet dela Rhea in the drama epic Iisa Pa Lamang. Rubí is Panganiban’s first primetime leading role, as she has mostly played supporting characters. Also from Iisa Pa Lamang are co-stars Diether Ocampo and Cherry Pie Picache. Ocampo plays Rubi’s love interest as Hector and Picache as Rubi’s troubled mother. Also in the cast are Jake Cuenca andShaina Magdayao. Cuenca plays Alejandro, a young medical doctor, who Rubi mistakenly thinks is rich. Magdayao is Maribel, a rich young woman with a disability who Rubi befriends because of her generosity with her luxuries. For the second time around, Gardo Versoza and Cherie Gil plays a couple, as they did in Katorse, are Maribel’s parents. This will also remark Kaye Abad’s first primetime series other than guesting in May Bukas Pa. The show will also be joined by veteran actress Bing Loyzaga.
Plot
Rubi is the story of a woman full of secrets that will destroy the lives of the people closest to her heart once the truth comes out. As someone who’s fed up with her family’s poverty-stricken life, Rubi learns how to play her cards right to get what she wants even at the expense of her loved ones. How far will she go for the sake of her pursuit of power and wealth? Will she give up the man who truly loves her in favor of the one who showers her with everything that money can buy?
